Okay, shameless self-promotion time… this is a silly one from the past that’s been reborn into the present, a little rougher around the edges.

The original version of The Truth About Aspartame had a lot of firsts for me: it was my first song done with my first drum machine; and I was auditioning a bassist at the same time–which was the first time I’d ever done anything like that, either. Okay, that’s only two firsts. Sue me, heh.

Bassist didn’t last, but that’s okay. Was the first, but won’t be the last. (My still-gelling punk band, Whoregasm, has been through quite a few bassists and lead guitarists, and we still haven’t hit the stage yet. Oy.) When it came time to do this song live with my partner in crime Max, under the Primitive Screwheads flag, the odd rhythms started to throw me. After a pause for cigarette, beer, and angry muttering, the current version was vomited out.

This current version keeps the guitar string companies in business, anyway. Here’s us, last year in Spokane, WA, with The Truth About Aspartame.

Oh, and the live cover of the song referred to at the end of the video, WreckdoM’s Not Exactly Normal, can be viewed here. If you dare. Be sure to sing along, if you have cow-orkers who are easily distracted or like to complain about the music coming from your workspace.
