Off of 1970’s Buddy And The Juniors, here’s A Motif Is Just A Riff (aka Riffin’).

Performed by Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and Junior Mance… it’s seven & a half-odd minutes of a single riff. And fresh the whole way through. Pretty fuckin’ cool, man.

1962… Marilyn Monroe goes, Spider-Man appears, and JFK promises the world a man on the moon by the end of the decade.

And Phil Spector produces a song by Carole King and Gerry Goffin for that superpower of early ’60s girl groups, The Crystals.

He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss) is, well, an interesting ride. The title pretty much says it all, there ain’t no surprises here. Well, maybe the only surprise is that it’s not the theme song for the Lifetime channel. Oh, zing!

Here’s two takes on it, the 1962 original, and a cover by The Motels from the 1980s.

It’s a bookend of sorts to Sunday’s Let’s Go, Man, using the thematic elements of the Mummy’s, errr, theme.

Branches appears to be done and over with (or at least their website is), but their song All Appeal has got an insistent hook with a barb on it, where you’ve gots to just push that fucker on through the other side… because if you yank it out the way it came in, well, that there’s a lot of damage.

I honestly have no memory, no recollection of this song. It showed up as a scribble on a Post-It note cluttered with bands and music that I’d heard that day, for later, deeper listenation and potential inclusion on this list here. ‘Cause, y’know, sharing is caring.

Now that I’ve heard it again (as if for the very first time), I wonder how it could have escaped my mind… but then on the same Post-It are Chris Black (remember yesterday’s SoTD?), and Long Black Train by House of Freaks — which I haven’t been able to find. Yet.

Heavy hooky hitters, all.
