Due to unscheduled network outages this weekend, I found myself stranded offline and cleaning dried cat piss off a gordian knot of MIDI cables that I needed to get an ancient MIDI hub thing up and (sort of) running. So here’s what I’d had planned for Saturday’s Song of the Day.

Seattle, Washington’s Octothorpe (or The Mighty Octothorpe, or simply # [which is an octothorpe symbol, by the way]) is one helluva fun group of musicians to play with. And they’re mighty good people to lift a beer (or other adult beverage) with, too. 

Their song Zombie Son was originally recorded for a Song Fight, where Spud (the musical director of #) is also one of the two admins. It’s got a nice Tom Waitsian dirty, slutty groove to it. You can give the studio version of #’s Zombie Son a listen here. 

I got to play guitar on Zombie Son with them on a few live dates last year (their guitarist couldn’t make it on the tour), when we were touring the Northwest along with other Song Fight bands. Most excellent times, whether playing it with a different lineup sans rehearsal in Spokane, or to a crowd of six in Moscow, Idaho under an over-enthusiastic cloud of fog. The Portland performance was kind of a blur, and I don’t remember much of it, heh. No recordings (that I know of) exist of the PDX show.
